Brain Training at Health Zone

So where did this idea come from?
Well, a few years ago I was fortunate to have someone offer to teach me a method for solving the famous Rubik’s cube. To solve it not just once, nor just occasionally but every time. No maths was needed, which was just as well because I did not consider myself as skilled in that arena.
Once I was assured that the method was achievable by anyone I decided to give it a go.
After all what did I have to lose?
As soon as I started, I really enjoyed the fun of learning it.
The steps were easy to learn.
The steps made sense.
The steps were clear.
It was all new and I attribute my learning enjoyment mostly to the good fortune of having someone to sit beside me each step of the way. It was invaluable to have someone to guide me, to direct me, to explain what was required.
Then one day, one special day, one memorable day I did it. I experienced a feeling which I will never forget. I experienced a feeling which no words can adequately or accurately describe. I overflowed with positive emotions and yes, it felt good.
So once I could do it why did I continue?
Well, my brain appeared to be training itself to behave differently.
I have noticed soaring levels of fulfilment and satisfaction.
These feelings are way off any chart.
I have noticed a significant improvement in my memory recall.
It is just easier to retain information.
I have noticed a vast increase in my cognitive abilities.
I find myself working things out for myself that I am sure I would have been unable to do before.
I have noticed that it helps significantly in my quest for mindfulness and being present.
This activity greatly reduces distractions and cuts out the minutiae of life.
Bus journeys, train trips, cab rides, airplane travel have all changed.
Just imagine a transformation in the concept of ‘waiting’ when you have something fun to do. I mean Instagram can be entertaining but there really is no competition.
I have witnessed many health and wellbeing benefits in my own experience but one of the biggest things for me is this feeling of, “oh my goodness, I can do anything, if I can solve the Rubik’s cube I can do anything!”
Hey, whether it is true or not, there is something satisfying about having that thought pop into my mind on a regular basis.
Perhaps some other time I may share with you some of the other things I have done since learning the cube, things which I only attempted because of my newly acquired ‘can do’ attitude.
Interestingly, I find myself meeting strangers in shops and on buses and the subject of the cube just crops up. This is probably because I have developed an uncanny knack for managing to weave the topic into many a conversation.
Responses vary, some people simply glaze over, some people declare no interest at all and others are really inspired by the idea of learning something that they consider to be a challenge.
Workshop – adult beginners
Okay, so I really enjoy sharing my passion, I love introducing people to this fascinating and fabulous world of puzzles. Their beauty and their magnificence continue to be a source of joy and exploration for me and it can be the same for you too.
I really enjoy helping with the various stages of learning, as there is something supremely satisfying in witnessing the transformation in people when they feel pleased with their achievement.
Currently available is the workshop for adult beginners to learn the 2 x 2 x 2 in one session. It is smaller than the original, therefore easier to learn and yet surprisingly intriguing and satisfying as a puzzle in its own right.
Why not make it your next party trick, you know the one, you’re visiting friends or family, you produce the puzzle, they all have a go expecting it to be easier than it looks. Then as if by magic – you solve it. Applause all round. Take a bow.
Perhaps it could lead to learning the more familiar 3 x 3 x 3 and/or some of the other available patterns. Either way, there is the possibility of great fun ahead as well as treating yourself to some of the many benefits that may be experienced as a result of adding this knowledge to your skill set.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to share this passion at Health Zone and look forward to joining this adventure with you.
